Matt and I are currently considering a trip to Malayasia in December 2012 to go and visit Sunway Lagoon.

Nothing is concrete yet and at the moment I’m looking at sourcing costings as it’s going to be an expensive year with the trip to Cape York in August / September on the agenda as well, but with the Australian exchange rate equaling RM$3.20 for every one Australian dollar it’s a possibility to say the least and still maintaining some contact with friends when I worked there some time ago; I’m quietly excited at the prospect of spending Xmas 2012 there to be honest.

The other thing is that I want Matt to see exactly how people in other countries live, particularly those where English isn’t the first language and also the ethnic melting pot that is the Malay, Chinese and Indian culture as well, not forgetting the religious aspects as he hasn’t had to understand other religions and be “tolerant” of them – I think this will be a good trip for him on that basis alone if nothing else.

Still, with all that taken into account, Sunway Lagoon will be great for him as he loves water parks and they have expanded this since I was there last some 10 odd years ago.  There is also a hotel there which is basically a short walk to the park which will be nice and handy as I understand from people that have recently been to Malaysia that pedestrian safety isn’t big on the minds of Kuala Lumpa drivers – good to see that not much has changed.  I remember that I nearly got cleaned up by a red Mitsubishi Magna one day if not for the quick thinking actions of one of the other office workers that I was with when crossing a driveway.

The hotel that we are looking at staying at is Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, a 35 minute transfer form Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Being December, I’ve been told that it will be hot so  imgine that the water park will be getting a reasonable workout; the Extreme park may also get a nudge as well knowing Matt depending on what age and height / weight limits are for the respective attractions there.

Still, there’s a lot to be planned and initiated before this comes to fruition, so this may not happen yet, but it sure sounds like a lot of fun in any case
