Matt loves fishing

By Andrew Tunney

I took Matt fishing this morning up to Palm Cove as the weather was the best that it’s been in ages for the last few months on a weekend.  We bundled his rod, the cast net and some water int the car and took off around 6:30am, by 6:45 we were into it and trying to get some live bait with no joy, so it was back to our fail safe, some fresh prawns that I caught last weekend.

Here’s a photo of him bringing his line in after getting baited early on:

After losing 3 baits, we decided to move up to the end of the jetty where there is nowhere near as much fencing, but still Matt knows not to get too close to the edge and that he can’t mess around there as well.  After about 15 minutes, he reeled in his first stripey and was immediately pumped and wanted to get another one.   He landed one other smaller stripey and then everything went quiet, so we packed up and went home.

All up he enjoyed his morning and wants to go again, wether or not the weather plays ball for him remains to be seen.  Stripeys are good fish for kids to learn on and they put up a great fight for their size, especially on light gear; Matt loved the effort the little fish put up laughed his head off when they made the rod tip bend – really was a good thing to watch so much enjoyment come from so little cost and time.

Can’t get that from sitting at home watching a movie or playing computer games!!
