Taking Matt fishing tomorrow

While I was getting a new flask at BCF today, Matt and I came across a little spin outfit which he fell in love with. When I looked at it, it had a really smooth reel with 5 ball bearings in it and a 5.1:1 ratio.
The rod was nice and light and they were on special at 15% off; the combo was a Slazenger so with it being a brand name (albeit not a well known one for fishing), I sprung $55 for the combo and we’re going to go have a crack at nailing a few fish tomorrow morning 
Matt’s current fishing rod is a cheap $20.00 thing that we bought at K-Mart for him when he was pretty much 3 years old and he does enjoy fishing when he’s getting bites, I figured that it was worth replacing it with something that was going to last for a while. You can see the rod in the photo above.
So with the rising tide peaking at 8:52am tomorrow, we’re planning to leave by 7:30am and head to Machans Beach at the mouth of the Barron River to have a crack at anything that will bite! He has already been told that he has to stay well back from the water as there are crocodiles in the river, but the mouth sees a fair bit of traffic so I doubt we’ll see any or have any problems with “snapping handbags”; I’ll still be keeping a very close eye on him and not letting him get any closer than 4m to the waters edge in any case.
The other thing that we’re trying out for the first time is UltraBite Instant Bait.

I’ll post about how we went and also some photos of him ‘christening’ his new combo, and hopefully getting a few fish as well! The mouth of the Barron has some good sand flats and gutters so hopefully he’ll be able to get a flathead or two.
