Australia Day breakfast at Trinity Beach
Posted by: | CommentsI took Matthew down to the Australia Day breakfast this morning at Trinity Beach and he had a ball.
Although the day is a pretty dreary one, we managed to avoid the rain and had a great free breakfast put on by Rotary which consisted of sausage, egg, bacon and a slice of bread, which Matt promptly made a bacon and sausage sandwich out of. Matt couldn’t understand why as the breakfast was free I emptied my wallet out of all the change that I had (around $4.00); I explained to him that the money goes to help fund other events, and although free, it was a good thing to donate some money for it and as it was Australia Day as part of being Australians is helping each other out. He regularly asks for any change that I have to put into the Guide Dogs plastic Labradors in shopping centres, so this was understood.
All up Matt had a good morning and had a full stomach from breakfast, how did you spend Australia Day? Did you have a ‘veg’ or attend any of the activities that were put on by the local or state Governments?
Even if you aren’t Australian, have a Happy Australia Day where ever you are!
Great day today

Well, I’ve had a great day with Matt today.
We started the day with pancakes at McDonalds, went to In2Cricket, then bought him a radio / CD Player for his room as his old one literally shorted out; then had lunch together at Subway on the way home.
He spent nearly 3 hours running his little butt off at at In2Cricket and was seriously wrecked but lasted till 8:00pm tonight before passing out on the couch. At least he will sleep well tonight.
We spent nearly 20 minutes in WoW finding just the perfect little cd / radio player to replace the one that shorted out in his room a few months ago. He decided on a little black and silver one that was $45.00.
Lunch at Subway, he devoured a kids chicken sandwich and two cookies in record time.
After we got home, he wouldn’t let me out of his sight and I haven’t had so many hugs in a long time.
We had a great day and although he was spoilt, he really appreciated the time that we spent together; it was great to have a “boys day out” and heaps of fun.
Follow up: Dress code Nazi’s

Well my earlier post here concerning Matt’s run in with the Dress Code Nazi’s has made the Sunday Mail; you can read the full story at the URL here:
He made the front page, page 7, page 66 and the editorial; this all arose from the initial post that I made here. I was contacted by Gavin King of the Sunday Mail FNQ office and he asked if I would mind if they ran a story on it as part of a bigger story about political correctness gone mad to which I had no objections. The end result was a bit larger than Gavin originally told me it would be, 3/4 of page 7 is a pretty considerable article.
My main reason behind giving the Sunday Mail the authorisation to print this is that I have no objections to a uniform code, however; it should be applied across the board, not just in certain sections of the school when it (would seem) is convenient for the school to do so. As I mentioned, there are senior students there wearing iPods and make-up which also is banned but at the moment this seems to be having a blind eye turned to it.
Well, it looks like Monday is going to be an interesting day. At the moment, Matt is simply enjoying his “15 minutes of fame” having his photo in the paper and online. You can read my original story by clicking the link here.
